Interceptor Spectrum is a monthly palatable meaty Chew for the prevention of heartworm and the treatment and prevention of roundworm, hookworm and whipworm and tapeworm in dogs.
Actions Milbemycin oxime prevents heartworm and controls gastrointestinal nematodes. It increases nematode membrane permeability to chloride ions via glutamate gated chloride ion channels, leading to flaccid paralysis and death of the parasite. Praziquantel controls tapeworms by modifying the permeability of their membranes to calcium, inducing damage to the membranes and resulting in the death of the parasite.
Indications Monthly treatment prevents
- heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) infection,
- controls adult roundworm (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina),
- immature roundworm (Toxocara canis),
- adult whipworm (Trichuris vulpis),
- adult hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum),
- adult tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus, Taenia pisiformis and Dipylidium caninum)
- and aids in the control of adult hookworm (Uncinaria stenocephala) infection in dogs.
Warnings Some mild, transient, shock-like reactions have occurred when treating heartworm positive dogs carrying a high number of microfilariae at the time of the first treatment with milbemycin oxime. Dogs should be tested and be free from both adult heartworm and microfilariae before starting on preventative treatment with Interceptor Spectrum.
Precautions Interceptor Spectrum provides a wide margin of safety in dogs when used according to label directions. Milbemycin oxime has been tested in over 75 different breeds of dogs, including pregnant females, breeding males and females, and puppies from 2 weeks of age. Satisfactory margins of safety have been demonstrated for both milbemycin oxime and praziquantel when administered during all reproductive phases.

My vet charges £7.79 per tablet (Milpro)....if I want to purchase elsewhere in UK I need to pay £12.70 for a prescription as well....which ensures that the price stays high. Hurray! for competition - by purchasing from The Vet Shed (Interceptor - with the same constituents as Milpro), even adding postage & packing from Australia I am still paying substantially less. Actually, the money is not the issue, the principle is).

10 August 2014I have both my German Shepherds on this product. I used to have them receive the yearly injection for heart disease prevention however I have found this product is much cheaper I save myself over $200 per year by purchasing the product through the Vet Shed. At first I was not sure how the dogs would tolerate the chew, first impressions were great. Both dogs accepted the chew and ate all of it in under one minute. Using the monthly chew is now very easy. Would highly recommend this product to anyone considering using it. Also the Vet Shed is the definite way to purchase this product at a great rate and very fast customer service and delivery. Cheers

9 August 2014I have been using this product for quite a while but even though I don't have a fussy dog I have to break it up & hide in his meal. I cant get him to eat them even though they are advertised as treats. I have to make sure he eats everything in his bowl so he gets the full benefit so generally put a tin of sardines in with his meal & he never leaves any.
