Comfortis is a once a month chewable tablet for dogs and cats to rapidly kills fleas and prevent and control flea infestations. Comfortis also helps control flea allergy dermatitis in dogs and cats.
The active ingredient in Comfortis is Spinosad. It belongs to a class of antiparasitics known as spinosyns, which are derived from a naturally-occurring soil microbe. It works by attacking the nervous system of insects, causing rapid death of adult fleas.
Comfortis is recommended in use in dogs and cats over 14 weeks of age or older. It should always be given orally just prior to feeding or with a meal to maximise it's effectiveness. As it is a beef flavoured tablet some dogs and cats may eat this simoly out of your hand. If this is not the case it can be given orally like other tablet medications.
Comfortis comes in 5 sizes according to your dog's body weight.
Dogs over 54kg should be given the appropriate combination of tablets equalling their bodyweight.
Cats
Cats over 11.2kg should be given the appropriate combination of tablets equalling their body weight
ADVANTAGES OF COMFORTIS

- Can be used in conjuction with topical tick treatments and tick collars in dogs (as per label directions)
- Safe to use with Drontal or Popantel worming treatment in cats.
- PRECAUTIONS
- Not recommended for puppies or kittens less than 14 weeks of age.
- The safe use of Comfortis in Breeding male cats and dogs has not been evaluated.
- The safe use of Comfortis in pregnant, lactating female cats and dogs has not been evaluated
- Not recommended for dogs or cats with pre-existing epilepsy.
- Vomiting has been associated with the administration of Comfortis (most commonly within 48 hours of administration of the first dose). For dogs the repeated administration of Comfortis lessens the effect of vomiting. Unfortunately in cats the incidence of vomiting does not appear to decrease
- No safety studies have been conducted on the safe use of Comfortis with Milbemax, Revolution or Advocate in Cats.
