How do I stop my cat scratching my furniture?

If you are experiencing claw marks throughout your house on your furniture - you are not alone. Many people face this problem and just do not how to get their cats to stop! Cats can cause some serious damage to furnuture - their claws are sharp! 

Like their larger wild counterparts, cats need to keep their claws trimmed and sharpened. As a tiger or a lion in the wild would do this on a tree - unfortunately your cat will do this on your furniture if they do not have an alternative. There is no point trying to stop your cat clawing as it is normal - you need to encourage your cat to scratch on other things like a scratching post:
