How to celebrate Grand Final day with your pet

Date Posted:5 September 2019

The biggest games of both AFL and NRL this year are coming up soon! We will all be getting into the footy spirit, and so can our pets. We have some tips and tricks for celebrating with your pets this year so they stay safe and have fun!

1. If having guests over take them for a walk in the morning!

  • This depends on what your dog will be up to during the day. If you know you are having guests over and they may not get all of the attention from you, walking them in the morning and releasing some of their energy is a great idea.

2. Make sure all gates are closed

  • To ensure your pets are safe and do not escape, make sure all guests that may be entering your property know you have pets and to look out, or you can put your pets in a safe place while people are arriving.

3. Be careful of dangerous foods

  • Make sure none of your guests are feeding your pets as many foods eaten during footy finals can be dangerous to our fur babies.
  • Pets cannot have Alcohol, Chicken wings, Kebab skewers, Chocolate, Guacamole (avovado), any time of bones and onions. So, just to make sure it is best to keep your dog away from all of your human foods for the duration of your celebrations.

4. Set your pets up a safe space

  • During your celebrations your pets may become overwhelmed. Be prepared and set them up a safe space with their bed, toys, food and water.

Now onto the fun parts!

5. Dress your pet up in your team colours!

  • Get your pets into the team spirit by letting them wear your favourite scarf or gurnsey! Here is some inspiration:

6. Play some footy!

  • Not only do we all love footy, but our dogs do too! It may be best to play with an old footy incase your dog pops it and you might need to invest in a spare. They love getting involved!
