Ammo Allwormer Paste for Horses
Composition:
- Abamectin 4 mg/g
- Morantel Tartrate 167 mg/g
Description:
Ammo is a yellow, viscous paste that combines Abamectin and Morantel Tartrate to provide broad-spectrum worm control, especially useful when resistance to other wormers is a concern.
Actions:
Ammo is a highly effective, broad-spectrum anthelmintic that targets a wide variety of internal parasites. It is particularly potent against:
- Tapeworms
- Large and small strongyles
- Ascarids (roundworms)
- Pinworms
- Hairworms
- Large-mouthed stomach worms
- Threadworms
- Lungworms
- Bots
- Onchocerca microfilariae
This wormer is effective against both adult and larval stages of many parasites, with up to 100% worm kill, including strains resistant to benzimidazoles.
-
Abamectin: A macrocyclic lactone that works by binding to chloride channels in the nerve cells of parasites, causing paralysis and death. It also enhances the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), further immobilizing the parasite.
-
Morantel Tartrate: A tetrahydropyrimidine anthelmintic that induces paralysis in roundworms and tapeworms by acting on acetylcholine receptors, leading to spastic paralysis and expulsion of the parasites.
Indications:
Ammo is used for the treatment and control of a wide range of parasitic infections, including:
- Tapeworm
- Roundworms (including larvae of Strongylus vulgaris and small strongyles resistant to benzimidazoles)
- Bots
- Summer sores caused by Habronema and Draschia species
- Onchocerca species microfilariae (cutaneous onchocerciasis)
Withholding Period:
- Meat: Horses – 28 days
Dosage and Administration:
Ammo is safe for horses of all ages, including pregnant mares and foals. The contents of one syringe treat one 600 kg horse. For foals and ponies, administer 5.4 g (one 5 mL division) per 100 kg body weight.
To administer, place the syringe nozzle into the side of the horse’s mouth and dispense the paste as far back over the tongue as possible.
Regular Parasite Control Program:
Ammo should be part of a regular worming schedule for horses, with particular attention to mares, foals, and yearlings. Since reinfestation is common, repeat treatments are necessary for effective control. Ammo helps reduce the risk of verminous arteritis and colic caused by Strongylus vulgaris. Consult with a veterinarian to create a tailored parasite control plan for your horse’s specific needs.
Presentation:
Ammo is available as an oral paste in a graduated syringe, with a 32.5 g capacity.
Ammo is a trusted solution for comprehensive parasite control in horses, addressing a wide range of internal parasites and contributing to overall health and well-being
Vet Shed nurse tip: Ammo horse worming paste is mint-flavored, which helps make administration easier for your horse. However, many horses may still try to spit it out as they aren't fond of having paste placed in their mouth. To ensure your horse receives the correct dose, place the paste at the back of their tongue and lift their head high to encourage swallowing. If any paste is spat out, be sure to administer the remaining dose to ensure proper treatment. It’s important that your horse gets the full dose for effective worming.
