Ammo An allwormer which combines Abamectin with Morantel Tartrate. Great if you are having resistance problems with other wormers
Composition Abamectin 4 mg/g, morantel tartrate 167 mg/g.
Description. Yellow viscous paste.
Actions Broad spectrum anthelmintic with strong activity against tapeworm, large strongyles, small strongyles, ascarids, pinworms, hairworms, large mouthed stomach worms, threadworms, lungworms, bots and Onchocerca microfilariae. AMMO is effective at recommended doses against a wide range of adult and larval worms, with up to 100% worm kill (including benzimidazole resistant strains).
Abamectin is a macrocyclic lactone anthelmintic with a broad spectrum of activity against both nematode and arthropod parasites. It exerts its activity by binding to glutamate gated chloride channel receptors in nematode and arthropod nerve cells, allowing an influx of chloride ions which results in flaccid paralysis of the parasite.
Abamectin also enhances the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at postsynaptic neurones, thus blocking stimulation of the postsynaptic neurone in nematodes or the muscle fibre in arthropods. By stimulating release of GABA, abamectin causes partial paralysis and eventual death of the parasite.
Morantel tartrate is a tetrahydropyrimidine anthelmintic which is effective against roundworms and tapeworms in a number of domestic species including horses and cattle. It is a potent agonist at acetylcholine receptors on the muscle cells of these parasites, inducing a prolonged spastic paralysis of the parasite and expulsion from the host.
Indications Treatment and control of tapeworm, roundworm (including arterial larval stages of Strongylus vulgaris and benzimidazole resistant small strongyles), bots and skin lesions caused by Habronema and Draschia sp. (summer sores) and Onchocerca sp. microfilariae (cutaneous onchocerciasis).
Withholding Periods Meat. Horses: 28 days.
Dosage and Administration AMMO is safe to administer to horses of all ages, including pregnant mares and young foals. Contents of syringe will treat one horse of 600 kg bodyweight. Foals, ponies. 5.4 g (one 5 mL division)/100 kg bodyweight. To administer, place nozzle into the side of the mouth and deposit the paste as far back over the tongue as possible.
All horses should be included in a regular parasite control program with particular attention being paid to mares, foals and yearlings. Because re-infestation is common, treatment must be repeated routinely for effective control. AMMO is highly effective against gastrointestinal, cutaneous and pulmonary nematodes and bots in horses of all ages. Regular treatment will reduce the chances of verminous arteritis and colic caused by S. vulgaris. AMMO is well suited to be the major product in a parasite control program. Consult a veterinarian for a control program to meet specific needs.
Presentation Paste for oral administration (graduated dose syringe): 32.5 g.
