The Gentle Leader Head Collar is often called "The 10-minute attitude adjuster" for its ability to quickly teach dogs not to pull or jump, especially when combined with positive reinforcement. It works by applying gentle pressure to the muzzle and the back of the neck, mimicking a mother dog's corrective actions with her puppies, signaling to the dog that you are in control. Despite its corrective action, the head collar allows your dog to open their mouth fully for activities such as drinking, eating, panting, and barking.
SIZING FOR YOUR DOG
Choosing the right size for the Gentle Leader Headcollar is simple. All you need is your dog's approximate weight. However, certain breeds with particularly large or small heads may need a size that doesn’t match the typical body weight range. All sizes are adjustable to fit a variety of breeds within the specified weight range.
- Large: 30-55 kg (e.g., Labradors, Shepherds, Danes, Rottweilers, Mastiffs, etc.) Note: The collar’s maximum length is 51 cm. If your dog’s neck size exceeds this, you may need to select a larger size.
For Puppies:
- Medium to large breed puppies can start using a Medium size at 8 to 10 weeks, and continue wearing it until they reach 30 kg.
- Large breed puppies weighing over 20 kg should begin with a Large size.
For Short-Snout Dogs:
- Medium and Large sizes are available for breeds like Bulldogs and Boxers.
FITTING YOUR DOG
-
Neck Loop: The Neck Loop should fit snugly, like a belt or shoe, with only one finger able to fit between the strap and your dog’s neck. It should not rotate and must be positioned as high on the neck as possible—just behind the ears and above the Adam's apple in front. The snugger the neck loop, the looser the Nose Loop can be.
-
Nose Loop: The Nose Loop should rest just in front of your dog’s eyes and behind the corners of their mouth. It must be loose enough to move toward the fleshy part of the nose but not so loose that it can slip off the muzzle.
-
Fit Check: Check the fit daily, especially for growing puppies. Ensure the Neck Loop is snug and high behind the ears, while the Nose Loop is comfortable and positioned correctly on the nose.
-
Adjustment for Full Growth: Once your dog reaches full maturity, you can trim any excess length from the Neck Strap. After removing the collar from your dog, use scissors to cut the strap and seal the edge with a flame to prevent fraying

Good for training but doesn't last long
By: Polly on 24 October 2022I find these types of head collars really useful in stopping my labrador pulling. But I've bought two of these and both have broken after 3 or 4 month's use. I will try a different brand now.

Gentle Leader
By: Pina Martino on 12 January 2018It was the right fit for my puppy. I am amazed at the difference it makes when we take him for a walk. He is actually more calmer and it is a lot easier to control him.

Life changer
By: Grace on 27 November 2017This lead really lives up to its claims however training is still required and some research. I have a very large muscle 30kg dog and taking him for a walk feels like my neck will break but this lead really enables me to control his head which somehow makes him not pull. It's amazing. Must have for all large dogs!!!

Gentel leader
By: Petra on 15 April 2017Buying a gentel leader for my 17month old Cane Corso Mastiff was the best thing. She is now a pleasure to take on walk's. No more pulling, pure bliss. Wish I had bought one sooner! And it's so easy to put on.
