MALASEB Shampoo An excellent broad spectrum medicated shampoo, suitable for all forms of skin infections.
Registered Name: Dermcare Malaseb Medicated Foam
Composition: Miconazole nitrate 20 g/L, chlorhexidine gluconate 20 g/L.
Actions: Miconazole is a synthetic imidazole derivative which has a pronounced antifungal effect against Malassezia (Pityrosporum) pachydermatis, the dermatophytes Microsporum gypseum, M. canis and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and a potent activity against Gram-positive bacteria.
Chlorhexidine has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts, moulds and fungi.
The combination of miconazole and chlorhexidine is efficacious at killing the causative organisms of seborrhoeic dermatitis, M. pachydermatis and Staphylococcus intermedius. Staph. intermedius occurs as an overgrowth pathogen in the presence of Malassezia and is the main bacterial species responsible for bacterial dermatitis in the dog and cat.
Indications: Treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis associated with Staphylococcus intermedius and Malassezia (Pityrosporum) pachydermatis; aid in the treatment of dermatophyte infections (ringworm) due to Microsporum canis, M. gypseum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes in dogs and cats by decreasing the time to clinical resolution and killing infective spores.
Directions for use: Wet the animal thoroughly with clean water. Apply the foam to the animal at several points and massage into the coat. A sponge assists lathering and penetration of the coat. Ensure that Malaseb is applied around the lips, under the tail and between the toes as these areas harbour causative organisms. Allow to stand for ten minutes, then rinse off with clean water. Repeat twice weekly until symptoms abate then use weekly, or on veterinary advice.
With dermatophytosis (ringworm) all in-contact animals should be treated to limit infection spreading and environmental contamination.

Should rename this Smell-Be-Gone

The product works an absolute treat, with my dog now shiny and no longer smelling like a dockers armpit, and the service from The Vet Shed is second to none. Highly recommended all round.

Miracle Malaseb
By: Andrea on 13 April 2014One of our two dogs (shihtzu) has a terrible time with itchy fungal skin. Obvously worse in the warmer weather but an all year problem. Malaseb used weekly keeps her skin condition is great check. Wouldn't be without it. We give her in between face washes, as needed and it makes such a difference for her. Shes miserable without it. Ohhh and a bonus it helps keep the yeasty odours at bay too. Can't recommend this product enough :)
