Feeding Instructions:

Preparation:

• Always prepare Neocare fresh before each feed. Do not reuse or refrigerate pre-mixed formula.
• Avoid using a microwave to heat the formula to prevent crop burns due to uneven heating.
• Use a fork to mix the formula for the best consistency, ensuring smoothness and no lumps.

Neonate / Transition Feeding:

• Start with a very runny mix by adding 2 small level scoops of Neocare to a mixing cup and combining with 1 large scoop and 1 small scoop of boiling water.
• Mix thoroughly for 30 seconds using a fork, ensuring an even consistency.
• Gradually thicken the formula over 48 hours until reaching the regular feeding consistency (outlined below).

Regular Feeding:

• Add 1 large level scoop of Neocare to a mixing cup, followed by 1 large scoop of boiling water.
• Mix thoroughly using a fork for 30 seconds until a thick, consistent paste forms.
• Add 3 small scoops of cool water and mix for 2 minutes or until an even consistency is achieved.
• Check the temperature before feeding to ensure it is between 38-41°C.

Feeding Frequency:

• The first feed of the day should be between 5-6am, and the last feed between 10-11pm.
• Once daily, allow the crop to empty completely. The frequency and amount of feeds depend on the species and age of the bird, so research individual needs carefully before starting.

Directions

To ensure success with your hand reared babies you must follow these directions. 

Starting off babies on Neocare 

• Start off with a very runny mixture. 2 small level scoops of formula to a jar or a cup, then add one large scoop and one small scoop of boiling water. 
• Mix this through thoroughly using a fork for 30 seconds or until an even consistency is acheived (like gritty milk)
• Check the temperature and start to feed. The above mix needs to be gradually thickened over 48 hours.

Mixing regular formula

• Add one large level scoop of formula to a jar or cup, then add one large scoop of boiling water.
• Mix thoroughly using a fork for 30 seconds until a thick and consistent paste is formed.
• Add a further 3 small scoops of cool water and mix for a further 2 minutes or until an even consistency is achieved.
• Check temperature and feed.

More Information

•  The temperature of the food fed to babies should be between 36-38 degrees celcius. It is important that you do not use a microwave to heat the formlula. 
• You must use fresh formula - do not refrigirate any pre mixed formula for later use. 
• The age and other specifics determine how often you should feed your baby birds. Be sure to research the requirements your little ones need before feeding.
